Emerging Technology Exploration

  • What kind of pedagogical benefits/affordances did you find from your observations?

  • How could you leverage these technologies/pedagogical practices in your own classroom?

I really enjoyed the Augmented Reality Learning Tool Enhancement. I remember in Elementary school that we had a 3-D body that had all the organs and could remove them to see where they were and what they looked like. The application would take information and bring it to like and make an experience for students today quite like the experience I had when I was in elementary school.

I hated the QR code “emerging Technologies videos. I feel that it just added a gimmick to learning instead of a relatable experience. Michael Bodekaer spoke about this in his TEDx Talks and I was so dissatisfied watching the videos. I would like to hear from the student in our class who teaches math what his thoughts were on this.

The videos for MinecraftEdu were very interesting, optimistic, and encouraging. I have played Minecraft myself and have experienced many of the same things. The reason I started playing was because of my nieces and nephews. I went along with them as they played on servers with friends while they learned many things. Unfortunately, there are negative lessons to be learned, like greed, selfishness, envy, and hate.

I have noticed that all of these videos only give the positive sides of technology, but they don’t bring up any of the drawbacks, weaknesses or negatives from them. I dislike being forced to look through “rose colored glasses.”
