Immersive Learning: Creating "an" Experience

  • What does it really mean by immersive learning experience?"

  • and, "What is the nature of "experience" that we are to design?"

Motivation. Why are students taking the class, do they just want an A? Do they wish to learn because of a thirst of knowledge? Who is responsible for the learning? Is it the teacher? Is it the student? A combination of both?

We as teachers must do our part, teaching and doing it in an immersive way to help motivate our students. How do we do this? I feel like we must be experts in what we are teaching, we have experienced, feel, and know the topic. We can express to our students our experiences and we can use technology to do this!

This is not the end to the subject, expressing an experience we had is not enough. Expressing to someone else how delicious a cake is not the same as having them experience the cake is for themselves. And what tools do we have to allow them to experience things for themselves? Technology is one such tool in the learning environment.

In the end we are trying to reach our students. Create a positive environment where they are free to ask questions, allow them to interact with each other and the subject matter. We can guide them and use different mediums to experience things in a way that changes their mind and allows them to grow not just today but for the rest of their lives.
