Makerspaces
Makerspaces
I chose this option because it had the smallest name on the list. It has a lot of history and some interesting origins. I feel that makerspaces is a concept that needs someone to own and be given its own space to thrive in. In our case within school, it is an area for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools.
I feel like this works great in secondary education where you have classes that work towards a specific niche. It can work in primary education; however, the Ted talk I watched did not convince me. It gave an example of a teacher talking about Lenardo DaVinci and his inventions. The class spent a day making and learning his inventions. I don’t know how I could replicate this with a group of second graders. I am sure there is a way, but I feel that this resource is more suited for older kids. The impact on them would be much greater.
In conclusion this pedagogical approach is fantastic and hits exactly where we want to go with TPACK
